Tabs in zones

Rules can fill each tab, so one zone can hold Work (icons you placed by hand), Downloads (a rule) and Desktop (everything else), one at a time.

Adding a tab

A tab has its own title, icons, pins and sort order. Right-click the title bar and choose Add tab. New tab makes a tab that rules fill, New folder tab… shows one folder, and each other zone is listed to combine into this one. Rename… renames the tab you pointed at.

Combining and moving tabs

Drag a zone by its title bar onto another zone's title bar and rest there. When "Drop to make a tab" shows, let go.
Hold Shift and drag a tab: along the strip to reorder, onto another zone's title bar to move it there, onto the desktop to make it a zone again. Esc cancels.
Or use This tab on the zone menu.

Undo at the top of the zone menu, or on the Zones page, reverses the latest combine, move or deletion.

The tab strip

With two or more tabs, headers replace the title. Click one to show it. Tabs that don't fit go under n more; a narrow zone shows one tab and a menu. A dot marks new arrivals. A rolled-up zone keeps its strip. Style belongs to the zone; a tab moved out gets its old style back.

On the Zones page, zone actions act on a group row's zone and tab actions on its tab; Zone ▾ opens the menu for the tab shown.

Keys

Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Page Down shows the next tab, Ctrl+Shift+Tab or Ctrl+Page Up the previous. On a focused tab, Left, Right, Home and End switch tabs.

Deleting a tab

This tab > Delete… removes the tab. A Desktop tab's rules go too, and its icons go where rules put them; a folder tab leaves its folder and files alone. The Desktop tab catches everything else, so it can't be deleted.
