Rule conditions
What a rule can look at in its When part, and where its icons come from (see Rules).
The conditions
- File extension, such as
.xlsx .csv(separate with commas or spaces) - File kind: images, documents, video, audio, archives or installers
- Name pattern, such as
Screenshot*(*is any characters) - Item type: file, folder or shortcut
- Arrived (first seen): when Hedgerow first saw the icon. It beats Age for downloads, whose modified date can be old
- Age (last changed): more or less than a number of days
- Size: larger or smaller than an amount in KB, MB or GB
- Downloaded from the internet: files Windows marks as downloaded. Unblocking a file takes effect within the hour
- Shortcut target: where a shortcut points, a folder (such as
C:\Program Files) or a website (such asgithub.com). Shortcuts installed by some setup programs point at the installer, not the app
Is not, and, or
All conditions but Arrived, Age and Size can say is not. "Extension is not", "kind is not", Size and "was not downloaded" never catch folders, and "does not point to" only looks at shortcuts.
Add conditions with + And. With two or more, the first and is a drop-down: and (all of these) or or (any of these). It changes every join: + And becomes + Or.
From another folder
A rule's From picks where its icons come from: the Desktop, a folder other rules use, Downloads, or Choose folder…. Matching files appear in the zone but stay put; the rest stay hidden. A badge and the tooltip ("From Downloads") show where one lives. Open and rename act on the real file; Delete sends it to the Recycle Bin. To see it in its folder, right-click it and pick "Show in Downloads" (named for its folder), or press Ctrl+Shift+E. Network folders, removable drives and the Desktop can't be used.
