Troubleshooting

Desktop icons are hidden

Hedgerow hides Windows' own desktop icons while it shows them in zones. Choosing Exit from the tray menu brings them back. If Hedgerow closes unexpectedly, its helper brings them back shortly afterwards. If they are still hidden, right-click the desktop, point to View and choose Show desktop icons.

A hotkey does not work

Another program may already use that combination. Hedgerow's Home page lists the hotkeys that could not be registered; choose Change hotkeys… and pick a different combination.

Hedgerow does not start with Windows

Tick Start Hedgerow when I sign in to Windows on the Settings page, then choose Apply. If it was turned off in Task Manager's Startup apps, turning it on here turns it back on. If Hedgerow's Home page says it will start a little later than usual, it still starts with Windows, just after other apps.

The desktop menu is missing

Make sure Show Hedgerow in the desktop right-click menu is ticked on the Settings page and that you chose Apply, wait a minute, and look under Show more options. If Hedgerow's Home page shows a warning about the desktop right-click menu, choose Retry.

Hedgerow cannot save

Your zones still work, but changes are not being written to disk. Hedgerow keeps trying, and the warning goes away once saving works. Check that the drive has free space. If the warning says saving is turned off, your saved files were written by a newer Hedgerow or could not be read, and Hedgerow leaves them untouched. The log has the details.

Other programs cannot reach Hedgerow

The Start menu entry and the desktop menu talk to Hedgerow in the background. If Hedgerow's Home page says they cannot, choose Exit from the tray menu and start Hedgerow again.

The log

Hedgerow writes a log to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow\logs. It helps when you contact support. To open it, choose Open log folder (in Hedgerow’s Help).
